James M. Sims was approved July 13 by the Thomasville City Board of Education as the new principal at Thomasville High School.
He replaces Kyle Ferguson, who is retiring effective Aug. 1.
Sims has recently served as the Facilities and Operations Director of the Chattahoochee County School System in Cusseta, Ga. He has served in a number of leadership positions with the Chattahoochee system since 2007.
He previously served as assistant principal at Thomasville Middle School (2000-2007) and Alternative School Director for Thomasville City Schools (1997-2000).
Sims earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of South Alabama in Mobile and a Masters in Educational Leadership degree from the University of Northeast Louisiana in Monroe.
His leadership style is to “let people do what they need to do. We hire folks as teacher, educators and we need to let them (do their job). I’m not going to micromanage them. We will be accountable, but ultimately, the number one goal is what’s best for kids.
“That’s what has always encouraged me about Thomasville – it’s always been about the kids,” Sims said.
He’s very excited about coming back to Thomasville. “It’s a blessing. I can’t wait to get started. It is something my wife and I have talked about for years. …This couldn’t have worked out any better.”
