Wellness Committee meeting 3-31-25

The Wellness Committee of the Thomasville City Schools District held its annual meeting on March 31 in Thomasville High School's conference room.

The purpose of the meeting is to review the wellness policy for physical activity and nutrition. The meeting was led by Emily Thornton, Child Nutrition Program Director of the Thomasville school system and included members of administration, faculty, parents, students, and members of the Thomasville community.

“Thomasville City Schools is committed to providing school environments that promote and protect children's health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating habits and physical activities,” Thornton said. “To ensure that this goal is met, the school system's wellness team meets annually to monitor the wellness of its educational community.”  

At the March 25 meeting of the Thomasville City Board of Education, Vickie Morris, Thomasville City School Superintendent, spoke about the importance of the Wellness meeting. School board member Rita Nichols attended the Wellness meeting.

Other items addressed at the March 25 school board meeting included the financial report for February 2025 by Anjelica Gibson, Chief School Financial Officer. Payroll totaled $915,533.02, and accounts payable totaled $385,366.73.

• The school calendar for the 2025-2026 year was approved.

• A revised Procurement Policy was approved.

• The following personnel actions were approved:

(Employment Contract)

Melissa Washington, Contract Principal at Thomasville Elementary School, three-year contract, effective July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028;

Anjelica Gibson, Chief School Financial Officer, three-year contract, effective July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028.

• The next meeting of the school board will be held at 5 p.m. on April 22 in the THS Library. The public is invited.
