The total number of students in the Thomasville City Schools District as of Aug. 27 is 1,016, said Vickie Morris, Thomasville City Superintendent.
Thomasville High School has 308 students; Thomasville Middle School, 279; and Thomasville Elementary School, 429. More students will likely be enrolled in the next few weeks.
This student count would be an increase from the Fiscal Year 2024 Average Daily Membership (ADM) of 998.85.
The State Department of Education takes an average of a school's enrollment in the 20 days after Labor Day. It then divides the ADM in a formula that creates “teacher units,” a rough approximation of the number of teachers needed in a school, which determines funding. The ADM count in September 2024 will decide the state funding for FY 2026.
The school board meeting on Aug. 27 in the Thomasville High library included the first of two hearings on the FY 2025 budget. Anjelica Gibson, Chief School Financial Officer, gave incomplete details of the budget during a work session.
The school system will employ approximately 140 employees for 24-25.
Thomasville schools will receive $1,408,610.00 in county tax revenue, $163,000.00 in district tax revenue and $669,000.00 in local revenues.
The school system will receive $7,891,479.00 in state “Foundation” funding from the state for the 2024-2025 school year.
The FY 2025 budget features total revenues of $14,401,671.00 with expenditures totaling $14,967,779.00. Final figures on the revenues and expenditures will be reported during the second budget hearing on Sept. 10.
In other action from the Aug. 27 meeting, Gibson gave the July 2024 financial report. Accounts payable totaled $437,364.40, and payroll totaled $963,541.98.
