Thomasville school board 10-24-23

The following items were considered Oct. 24 at the meeting of the Thomasville City Board of Education in the Thomasville High School Library:

• The board approved the Five-Year Capital Plan for Fiscal Year 2024. The school system has applied for grants from Alabama Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth for funding of capital projects at all three schools in the Thomasville system.
The City of Thomasville has pledged to assist with the local financial match for the projects, said Vickie Morris, Thomasville City School Superintendent. The school system will learn in six to eight weeks if any grants are awarded.
• The school system has also received a $68,000 cyber security grant for the 23-24 school year.
• Anjelica Gibson, Chief School Financial Officer gave the financial report for August 2023. Payroll totaled $987,834.00, and accounts payable totaled $302,999.33.
• The board approved financing for purchasing the three new school buses with an interest rate of 4.95 percent with SmartBank.
• Board president Jim Davis was appointed delegate for the Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) meeting on Nov. 30 in Birmingham. Board Vice President Taylor Williams was appointed the alternate.
• The following personnel actions were approved:
Karen Dean, drama instructor at THS, effective for the 2023-2024 school year; (Volunteers) Mary Posey and Stephanie Reed.
• The next school board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Nov. 28 in the THS library. The public is invited.
