The Thomasville City Board of Education approved Sept. 12 the Fiscal Year 2024 budget.

Expenditures total $15,093,247.00, and revenues total $15,470,587.00.
The second and final budget hearing was held during the school board meeting in the Thomasville High School library.
Approximately $6,972,159.00 of the budget is being used for instruction of students, and $2,838,635.00 is being used for instructional support.
The school system will receive $8,180,901.00 in state funding for FY 2024. The school system must contribute a local match of $659,967.00 to the state.
Anticipated local revenues include: $220,000 from the Thomasville City Council; $550,000 from District Sales Tax; and $19,000 from the District Alcohol Beverage Tax.
The school system will receive $1,408,610.00 in county tax revenue and $163,000.00 in district tax revenue.
The projected enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is 316.1 at Thomasville High School; 264.15 at Thomasville Middle School; and 418.60 at Thomasville Elementary School. The school system has projected a loss of 39.35 students from the 22-23 school year to the 23-24 school year.
The school system has a total of 142.52 employees.
In other action from the Sept. 12 meeting, the board approved an overnight field trip for the Thomasville City Schools Gifted program March 25-27, 2024, to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.
• The board approved the textbook committee for Career Tech Education.
• The following volunteers for Thomasville Elementary School were approved: Janet Anderson, Vera Harris, Shirley Wallace, Susan Drinkard and Linda Pugh.
• The next school board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the THS library. The public is invited.
